Eulalia L. Newell-Garner was born in Laurel, Mississippi on November 29, 1946 to the late Thomas A. and Eunice B. Newell. She was the first born of the family. Eulalia was the first grandchild of the Boston family.
Eulalia was a product of the New York City Public School System. She earned a B.A. in Social Work at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. She returned to further her education, completing a Masters in Public Health Degree at The University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Eulalia’s work always centered around helping others. Her employment history included counseling young girls at Callagy Hall in Far Rockaway, NY and adolescents in a group home in Newburgh, NY. After serving those young ladies, she began working for the NYC Department of Health as a Counselor in various positions. She encouraged people on the A.I.D.S hotline. This was an anonymous Call Center where she coaxed callers to seek help and get tested.
Eulalia met her husband Edward Leon Garner while working at the Chelsea Branch of the NYC Health Department. They married June 14, 1986 and remained married until her death.
Eulalia regularly attended the First Church of God in Jamaica, NY. and was baptized there where she assisted the youth in any capacity. She started attending The Greater Rescue Church of Christ in Jamaica, NY with her sister Helen a few years ago. Eulalia enjoyed the services here and was welcomed by the Rescue Family.
Eulalia was a family Lady. She was all about family. No one in the family was NOT touched by her open heart and her selfless giving. She gave always; expecting nothing in return. As the eldest grandchild, Eulalia was the leader of the pack. The pecking order was established and all the cousins fell in line.
She loved reading, travelling, cruising, all genres of music and of course shopping. Rest assured, QVC and HSN will miss her.
On Sunday March 17, 2019, the Lord called her home.
Eulalia leaves to mourn her loss her husband, Edward L. Garner, sisters Janna E. Newell and Helen A Newell, sisters-in-law Jan Warner, Adrienne Warner and Joyce Warner, nephew Jhulian Newell-Little, aunts Eugenia B. Angel and Bettye (Louis) Beverly, uncles Charles (Theodora) Boston and Ralph Boston and hosts of cousins, relatives, and friends.
